Navigating the world of coding and trading can create unique challenges and frustrations. Especially when having ADHD, impulsivity does not help with discipline and patience, which is vital for trading. Problems with working memory and distractions are also not helpful when learning to code and understand certain concepts or produce solutions for complex problems.

This blog focuses on how we maneuver around these common issues and leverage our hyper-focus and neophilia minds to increase productivity and think in creative solutions within the realms of software development, as well as trading financial markets.

We’re not just about coding and trading; we’re about building a life that we are happy and fulfilled with. This can materialize in various forms, it could mean striving to become the best version of yourself following an exciting career you are passionate about, or breaking free from the 9-5 grind and starting your entrepreneur adventures.

You’ll find a wealth of tips and tricks aimed at boosting productivity, enhancing focus, and organizing life in a way that aligns with the ADHD mind. One of the main goals of this site is to empower ourselves to create alternative income streams and live life on our terms.

About the Founder

My name is Chris, and as long as I can remember felt like a fish out of the water. After finishing my bachelor’s in Biotechnology I decided to start learning to code to chase a career in software development. For the last six years, I have worked at various firms mainly building e-commerce API integrations, IoT platforms, and various client dashboards, using .NET, C#, Typescript (Angular and React), and Azure.

I have always had these periods of finding an interest or hobby and completely immersing myself in that, until two weeks later I found a new “shiny object” and never again touched that previous one. This created a lot of internal frustration. I had these great ideas and I have also always strongly desired an independent life away from the typical 9-5. Why couldn’t I stick to something that I liked, and create alternative income streams?

At my 9-5 job I had these periods of often being distracted, which resulted in a really hard time finishing even simple tasks. This led to unpleasant experiences with colleagues and bosses and even made me doubt myself.

Last year, in 2022, I was diagnosed with combined ADHD (hyperactive and inattentive) and suddenly everything made sense. A lot of struggles I have been having all my life were directly related to this disorder.

After going through cognitive behavioral therapy I realized that during my teens and adolescent years, I had already created a lot of personalized skills and tools that helped me cope with problems like time management, sleep, organization, and working memory capacity. Nevertheless, I discovered a lot of new things about my thinking patterns and got a lot better at managing my life taking into account the weaknesses and strengths of ADHD.

There are a lot of people like myself out there, and I want to help other ADHDers who struggle with the same issues I had… and sometimes still have. Everything I learned and discovered I want to share here to make your life easier.

Next to coding, I have found a passion in trading the financial markets. This I have been doing for the last five years. On and off, as it goes when our interests jump around like crazy…

After starting with cryptocurrencies I have transitioned to indices and in the last two years mainly towards foreign exchange. Some ADHD traits like impulsivity make it extremely hard to stay disciplined but I have generated a system and strategy that I can stick to. Combining and leveraging skills from software development we can create approaches and tools most common trades are unable to. We can programmatically back-test our strategies by writing scripts or creating algorithmic bots that execute our strategies mechanically. This requires a lot of work but can elevate us to be more financially independent with the end goal in mind: more free time

With that in mind, welcome to Code.Trade.Focus
